Discipline
Discipline is maintained by using praise and reward wherever possible and reprimand only when essential. Sometimes coloured stars are given for a piece of work but star stickers are also made for those who have been particularly well behaved, brave when hurt or have tidied up without too much persuasion. The children need to learn that bad behaviour is unacceptable and that staff are very disappointed with children who spoil and upset other children’s enjoyment. Sometimes this may mean that a child cannot engage in a favourite activity until he apologises. Often the nursery teacher will talk to the class about an incident, discussing with the children why such an action is considered unacceptable, thereby helping to develop the understanding of right and wrong.
