Our Philosophy

The School has two main aims:

  • To provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve.
  • To promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepare all pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

These two aims reinforce each other. The personal development of pupils, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, plays a significant part in their ability to learn and to achieve. Development in both areas is essential to raising standards of attainment for all pupils.

We are uniquely individualistic and flexible in our approach to the curriculum. Our broad curriculum is designed to benefit both the very able and the under-achiever.  We follow the National Curriculum but provide additional subjects as well, sometimes taking a more modular approach to teaching, preferring to  teach a subject across the curriculum to reinforce its meaning

Many children from Rock Hall School have gone on to academically selective independent schools but the curriculum is not directed towards passing examinations. The philosophy of the school ensures that children receive a very broad education; music, environmental science and the creative arts are given a high priority.

We feel allowing children to work at their own pace means they can receive an education carefully adapted to their requirements. Small teaching groups ensure that children are always encouraged and helped to give of their best.
