Music

Music holds a special place in the life of the school; it is treated with the same seriousness as the other academic subjects. The school feels that music making is invaluable in children’s development; it encourages co-operation between children and fosters the relationships between teacher and pupil. Children receive weekly class music and recorder lessons with a specialist teacher from the age of four. All pupils take part in our regular concerts and festivals and most can play a musical instrument.
We do not teach the music national curriculum. Our aim is to teach every child to sing, to read music and to play an instrument, however simple. We spend most music lessosns learning the recorder, singing, playing in ensemble groups or participating in the school band. We cover some composition work and some music from other cultures but our emphasis is on gaining skills and personal confidence. Music is taught in close assocation with drama.
