RE and PHSE
Although the school ethos is Christian we follow a modern syllabus for RE which covers other world religions. Great emphasis is laid on moral and spiritual values in the broadest sense which are reinforced in weekly PHSE and Citizenship lessons. Weekly assemblies act as a forum where daily problems, such as bad language or bullying, are openly discussed. Children are encouraged to help find communal solutions and many everyday school difficulties are overcome by this approach.
Healthy School
Rock Hall is part of the government’s Healthy Schools Initiative.
The school was fully accredited in June 2007 in all 8 strategy areas. These are PHSE, Citizenship, Healthy Eating, Social & Emotional Development, Physical Activity, Safety (including full child protection proceedings), Sex & Relationships, and Drugs, Alcohol & Tobacco.
There is a regular three yearly rigorous assessment process to obtain the award. Rock Hall is unusual being an independent school but we find that the Healthy Schools agenda supports and underpins much of our ethos and enables us to access much valuable and regular training. It also helps us forge strong and positive relationships with other schools in the area.
Our school council was established as a direct result of becoming a Healthy School and gives all children a voice in the daily running of the school.
